A Simple All-Natural Homemade PlayDough Recipe

  • 1 cup flour (whatever kind you have on hand)
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tbsps cream of tartar
  • 10ml vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • food coloring

Mix all your dry ingredients. Add the oil. Add some food colouring to your hot water and then pour in your dry ingredients. Mix well with your hands. Add some more flour if your mixture is too sticky. Knead on a floured surface.
Your playdough will keep for several months in an airtight container.

Dyed rice

  • 1 cup white rice
  • 1 tsp inegar
  • food colouring

Combine all the ingredients in a large resealable food bag or a plastic container and close. Massage the outside of the bag well with your hands or shake to box vigurously to get all the rice covered. Empty your rice on grease proof paper and let dry for a few minutes. Pop your rice in large box with some other bits like dinosaurs, cars, containers, spoons... for some great sensory play.

**You can also dye dry pasta, dry chickpeas, dry beans.

Cloud dough

  • 2 cups purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • food coloring

Wisk the food colouring with the oil and then add to the flour. Mix well with a fork and then knead it with your hands until you get a consistency that keeps it's shape when pressed. Pop the cloud dough in a container with tubs and spoon for some sand castle making!
